Art if you dare. About Artist Dorte Gjerlov
An industrious Bedouin in the shimmering heat of the Atlas Mountains. A smiling woman wrapped in red in the gray mountains of Nepal. A happy playful child in Borneo's steamy heat.
The artist Dorte Gjerlov paint picturesque diversity, and paint it diverse.
Dorte is an artist who dares.
She dare variability and she dare to go forward.
Therefore it is always excitement around her. For she dare.
Dorte she dare, because she master exactly what separates the artist from the ordinary painter. She captures an atmosfare and convey it, so that it will swirl the audience, into a new, spirited and colorful world where she carrie us on, to experience new adventures.
She involves us in an exotic world
and she does so, - in a way where people no longer distinguish between a sleepy early morning in a bazaar in Brunei or a frantic morningrush at a bus stop in Denmark.
She manages to be one of the few to describe the stress fields that exist between past and future, and she wraps them wisely into a contemporary language. She can do this, because she has an ear that manages to catch the undercurrent that is,- today's morning's buzzwords.
She understands people wherever she appears. Her world is about empathy, while she sets new geographic boundaries in the painting.
This is reflected in her art, whitch is fine koregraferet and beautifully balanced in a robe of colors. And then she can slam aces into her paintings, so the viewer really gets on an adventure.
In Aarhus, she uses glass shards from a smashed, in powerlessness, local bus shelter,
and turn it into a painting, of a picture of Denmark right now.
She uses sand from Western Sahara, to describe a desert atmosphere, from a democratic pushed country in Africa.
But she makes it such a way, that the images are positively enriching in their wit and narrative in their rich and yet restrictive color spectrum.
The keyboard is large. From brush, fingers, on oil and canvas, plastic, glass and lighting. The essence of her art is clear: To create a mosaic of peoples and peoples moods and she does it so it can be understood- all nations in between.
When she can do all this, it is obviously because she knowsher metier. And her worldwide travelling results in that she is constantly updated with what's being talked about on the bus in Morocco, Nepal, in Ireland or in a deep, green and rich forests on Borneo.
And her eternal quest for new forms of expressions in the canvas, glass, oil, old cloths, ceramic, furniture or neon,- makes Dorte Gjerlov an artist that is worth noticing!
